Net Works: Learn to Craft Handmade Nets for Empty Basketball Hoops in Your Neighborhood, self published via Kickstarter in 2014, is an educational resource that offers thoroughly illustrated instructions for knit and crochet, basketball net patterns submitted by artists in over 10 cities, and writings about the influence of craft and athletics in various urban settings. NCAA team players Taylor McVay, Andrea Sherrill Evans and Maria Molteni took on the challenge of creating knit and crochet instructions that are holistic and approachable, hoping to empower and inspire a new generation of makers and players. The book features conversational instructions (by McVay) photos, hand-drawn illustrations (by Evans), diagrams, charts, patterns and written accounts by those who have experienced Net Works in their communities.
Throughout the book, both content and Golden Arrows designs are considered with as much concern for physical engagement/coordination as conceptual understanding. This is in keeping with a belief that both athletics and crafts employ a physicality, mentality, and creativity that is therapeutic and strengthening. This book is original and it was made for you to use fluidly. It begs you to build upon it and to share the fruits of your labor with the NCAA and the world!
Printed Books are now sold out, but you can purchase the full color Net Works PDF to support NCAA programs HERE
